RETB Next Generation fixed sites go live in Scotland
The first fixed radio base station sites have gone live on the West Highland Line in Scotland, as part of the RETB ‘Next Generation’ renewal project.
Comms Design’s modular base station equipment is being installed at over 50 sites, serving both the West Highland and Far North Line. The new sites, in conjunction with CDL’s new on-train radios, allow RETB to operate in a new frequency band. The current RETB system’s frequencies have been lost to the digital television switchover hence the need for new communications infrastructure across Scotland.
Once completed, the new system will improve coverage of the lines, meaning less failed radio token transfers and therefore less delay to passengers and freight.
