CDL wins RETB Next Generation

Comms Design has won the contract with Network Rail to supply their RETB low-cost railway signalling and communications solution. CDL will design, develop and deliver base station, on-train and signalling centre equipment to cover over 700km of route on the Far North Line and West Highland Line in Scotland – some of the most difficult and demanding terrain in the UK.

The on-train equipment will be fitted to over 300 cabs across more than 23 rolling stock types.

The project will see the Far North Line signalling split into two areas, both controlled from the existing signalling centre at Inverness. This will improve signalling capacity and reduce delays at peak times.

This ambitious project is scheduled to go live in only 18 months time.
